Color cabinets made a pretty big impact in 2018. We stared to see gray cabinets and also these dark navy kitchens early on in the year and then towards the end we even saw some green kitchens break into the market. Now, I always think there will be a place for white kitchens due to their history but come on! Who doesn’t want to paint their kitchens after seeing some of these photos! But the color doesn’t just stop there. We even saw copper and black sinks!
Rose gold gave brass a pretty big run for its money in 2018. Almost all of the Project 62 line at Target (which is there modern line) was rose gold – especially with their kitchen stuff. I personally think gold will outlast rose gold. I think the pink tones just remain too feminine for everyone. Where gold is more friendly to all. I thought this quote from an HGTV article was interesting regarding the Rose Gold trend.
“I’m spotting rose gold and copper accents popping up in everything from appliances to flatware. Adding touches of pink gold to your kitchen or bath can take a cold utilitarian space to the next level by bringing some modern glamour and warmth to our favorite spaces. Rose gold references the Jazz Age and Art Deco elegance.” – Michael Berman interviewed by HGTV
Natural and Neutrals with Black accents:
I felt like this is all over my Instagram. At one point I thought I was just looking at the same home… but no. White, natural homes with black accents felt like the Instagram color pallet of the year. It can be cozy and easy to accomplish as far as style but I personally like more color in my designs. I also think where you live adds a huge impact to your space. We live in sunny South Florida so it is more common to design with blue and white in mind. Where other designers live in Utah or Colorado where it snows and dark moody colors fits their culture better. This is one of the reasons I will never understand Farmhouse style décor in South Florida. I get that it’s a trend in Texas… but they literally live on farms! The closest farm to us is probably a fish farm or one you pass on your way to Disney World and point out the cows to your children like you are showing them a dinosaur.
Marble Home Accents:
People really loved using natural accents like stone or marble in their accessories this year! We saw it everywhere and really LOVED it! It gave texture to our bookshelves, laundry rooms, and kitchen counters. It also paired beautifully with a vase filled with greens. It quickly made spaces feel up to date. Not sure that trend is going anywhere anytime soon.
Matte Black finishes in bathrooms:
This might be a trend we see more of in 2019. I have seen it integrated in all sorts of styles and designs this year. It can be done very well and even gives bathrooms a fresh feel. I have a feeling we will be seeing more of this in 2019.
