Our garage was, like most people, the dumping grounds for all things Reno once we were done with the inside of our house. I was DONE. Needed a break… but Steve had 1 more idea before we wrapped up #renolife on the inside. THE GARAGE. I just thought he was going to clean it out but he wanted to make it livable and usable. Thats exactly what he did.
3 things I love about our garage:
The best thing we did was the floor. It had the biggest impact. We used an epoxy paint for the floor. That sounds easy… its not. We had to grind the floor ALL THE WAY down to its original foundation. This took a look time and lots of dust. I didn’t know much about epoxy before we did it but apparently it doesn’t work if you don’t do this step right. Epoxy is all about time, steps, and bonding. You have to do them in a certain order or it doesn’t work. Steve choose this marble look which turned out super cool! We love it!
We added enclosed storage which has really helped our garage not look SO messy all the time. We have plenty of space to add more if we need too as we collect more bikes and kids stuff… but the really secret to keeping a garage clean is not hoarding stuff. There are plenty of place to donate those things you don’t use anymore. Don’t just stuff things away… give them away to someone that could actually use them. We try to have a place for everything… this enables us to allow our kids to go play in there without worrying they will get into something they shouldn’t.
Having a gym in the house has become a game changer! I was so difficult to get to the gym. I totally get why people buy home gym equipment. Sometimes I go in there alone and other times we make it a family thing. It’s become a place to escape if I need a space to think. We put speakers, a fan, mirrors, mats, and weights. It’s a good start for us as we are getting back into a working out routine. When you have small kids you need it to be easy to carve out time… whats easier then your gym being in your garage?!
Design a life you love!
